Within FDOT's District Five boundary there are several public transportation properties, namely; VoTran (Volusia County), Space Coast Transportation (Brevard County), and Lynx (Seminole-Orange-Osceola Counties). Each of those properties have bus stops located throughout their respective communities. Several of those stops are located along state and federal highways, which are under the jurisdiction of FDOT. In an effort to identify, monitor, and maintain inventory along those facilities, FDOT commissioned a study to create a database of all of the bus stops along state facilities in the four county area of Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Osceola counties.
The study began as a simple effort of codifying the coordinates, as well as, providing pictures of each of those stops. After the study began it became apparent that, if the scope of the study could be modified, information and data collected could be beneficial to the Sunrail efforts.
The modified scope resulted in a document that created individual narratives, engineer's costs estimates, ROW summaries, aerial photographs, and preliminary designs for over two hundred key bus stops within the corridor of the new Sunrail Commuter train.
